The best interview techniques help you showcase your skills, personality and fit for the role and the company. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to interviewing, but some general tips can help you prepare and perform well. Here are some of them:
● Research the company beforehand to learn about its mission statement, values and industry-related news. You can also connect with former and current employees on a professional social networking platform to get an insider's perspective.
● Prepare for behavioural interview questions asking how you handled specific situations in your previous roles. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers and provide concrete examples of your achievements.
● Prepare for different types of interviews, such as phone, video, group or panel interviews. Ensure you have the right technology, equipment and environment for the discussion. Practise using your technology beforehand to make sure it works efficiently.
● Manage your stress by practising relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation or positive affirmations. You can also do mock interviews with a friend or a career coach to boost your confidence and get feedback on your performance.
● Be prepared with a list of questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview. This shows your interest in the role and the company and helps you to assess if it's a good fit for you. You can ask about the work culture, the expectations, the challenges or the next steps in the hiring process.
● Follow up after the interview by sending the interviewer a thank-you email or note within 24 hours. Express your appreciation for their time and restate your interest in the role. You can also mention something specific you discussed during the interview or highlight one of your strengths that matches the job requirements.
